Latin America’s startup ecosystems continue to gain ground on the global stage, as highlighted in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025 (GSER 2025). Leading the region is São Paulo, which holds a strong position at #37 in the Top 40 Global Startup Ecosystems, reinforcing its role as a regional powerhouse with deep strengths in Fintech, Agtech & New Food, and Biotech.
Across the Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems ranking, cities like Mexico City, Bogotá, and Buenos Aires are making steady progress — driven by a rising generation of founders, growing access to early-stage capital, and expanding regional and international market reach. As Latin America continues to mature as a startup region, its ecosystems are showing resilience, innovation, and increasing global relevance.

- The top five ecosystems in Latin America are São Paulo, Mexico City, Bogotá, Santiago-Valparaiso, and Rio de Janeiro.
- At #37 globally, São Paulo is Latin America’s only ecosystem in the Top 40 Ranking.
- Rio de Janeiro moved up one place into the top five Latin American ecosystems, replacing Buenos Aires for the #5 spot.
- Brazil is the most represented country in the Latin American Top 10 Ranking, with São Paulo at #1, Rio de Janeiro at #4, Belo Horizonte at #7, Curitiba at #8, and Porto Alegre at #10.
- São Paulo is the #1 Latin America Ecosystem in Performance, measuring the size and performance of an ecosystem based on the accumulated tech startup value created from exits and funding.
- Mexico City is the #2 ecosystem in three metrics: Funding, Talent & Experience, and Performance.
- Córdoba experienced a 9% growth in Ecosystem Value - the only ecosystem in the Latin American Top Five to do so.
